Villa Monastero: the tourist season 2015 closed with 55.000 visitors

The tourist season 2015 has been a great success at Villa Monastero in Varenna.

The recorded data are very positive: from March to December 2015 a total of 55.758 visitors has been at Villa Monastero, decisively up from the total of 49.329 visitors counted in 2014 (+13,03%).

Credit is due to the great number of events organised at Villa Monastero through the past year and very appreciated by the public, from the Carnival party in February to the special openings in November and December: exhibitions, concerts, family activities, guided tours, conferences.

The success has been granted also by Expo 2015 and the great number of initiatives planned at Villa Monastero for the project “ExpoLake: Green, Healthy, Smart Land” co-financed by Regione Lombardia. The possibility to visit Villa Monastero also during the week has been very appreciated, and the three exhibitions dedicated to the theme of Expo 2015 “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” has been very successful as well.

Another important success factor has been the introduction of Abbonamento Musei Lombardia Milano, project joined by the Province of Lecco in 2015 and in programme also for the next year. The pass of Abbonamento Musei Lombardia Milano allows to visit Villa Monastero and a lot of other cultural sites in Lombardy and is an interesting occasion to discover the rich choice of cultural events proposed by the supported structures.

The increase in the number of visitors observed in the last five years is very important: the 30.281 visitors recorded in 2011 are almost doubled in 2015 with a total of 55.728 (+84,14%).

Definitely positive also the evaluation of the special openings in November and December 2015: 1.259 visitors recorded in the last two months of the year. They enjoyed the sunny and mild climate to participate with enthusiasm in the initiatives proposed in the Botanical Garden or in the House Museum. In 2014 the people who visited the Villa during the special openings in November and December had been 506: the exceptional 148,81% increase shows how much the public appreciated the opening of Villa Monastero also in Autumn and Winter.

“It’s a result that rewards our work in the promotion of Villa Monastero – the President Flavio Polano says – In 2015 the Province of Lecco invested a large part of the revenues from tickets and events at Villa Monastero in the Villa itself, buying new equipment for the Conference Centre, taking restorative measures in the House Museum and implementing the Botanical Garden. This same care will be shown also in 2016, because Villa Monastero is renowned and appreciated all over the world and we want it to be always available to the community at its best”.

Villa Monastero will reopen on Tuesday 1st March and will close for the end of the tourist season on Tuesday 1st November 2016.

Also in 2016 the ticket will cost 8 euros (5 euros only the Garden), while the reduced price for senior visitors over the age of 65, groups of 10 people or more, Italian Touring Club members, young people between 12 and 18 and students between 18 and 24 will be 4 euros (2 euros only the Garden); the access will be free for children of 11 and under, disabled visitors, ICOM members and Varenna citizens.
